Double-car sectional doors
That means a lot of double-car steel sectional doors on extension or torsion springs that are now old enough to fatigue, and openers from the same era that are starting to grind, chain-slap, or stop responding to remotes.

Common jobs
Most of the calls we get come from the housing stock that went up between 1970 and 2003, with the bulk of it dating to the 1980s and 90s.

We work across the service area that covers Ivey Ranch and Rancho Del Oro just southeast of us, out through San Luis Rey, Peacock, Mira Costa, Loma Alta, Guajome, Fire Mountain, East Side Capistrano, Morro Hills, South Oceanside, and Townsite, and further out to Camp Pendleton South, Bonsall, Lake San Marcos, San Marcos, Hidden Meadows, and Fallbrook.
The mild temperate climate here doesn't put the kind of stress on hardware that freeze-thaw regions see, so when a door fails on a house this age, it's almost always wear - rollers worn to the shaft, cables starting to fray, a spring that's done its last cycle - not weather damage. We also get calls for panel damage from a car bumper or a dropped item, and for doors that were installed decades ago and just don't match current opener safety standards anymore.
Quick answers
A quote over the phone can only be as accurate as the information we have. Tell us the door's width (single or double), whether it's steel, wood, or fiberglass, and roughly how old it is - a door from the 1980s or 90s stock common in this area behaves very differently from a newer one.
Tell us if the opener still powers on, if the door is stuck open or shut, and whether you hear grinding, a loud bang (often a broken spring), or nothing at all.
What we cannot price without seeing the door: anything involving bent track, a door that's come off its rollers, or damage where we can't tell from a phone description whether the frame itself is affected. Spring and cable jobs we can usually quote close to accurate over the phone once we know size and panel count, because that hardware is standardized.
But a door that's been hit hard enough to warp a panel needs a look in person - sometimes a dented panel can be swapped out, sometimes the whole section needs replacing, and we won't guess at that cost before we're standing in front of it. Our limits
We don't quote blind on structural issues - if the header above the door or the framing around it has shifted or rotted, that's a carpentry problem first, and we'll tell you to get that looked at before a new door goes in. We also won't price a full opener-and-door swap sight unseen when a homeowner just wants a number to compare; we'll give you a realistic range, but the firm price waits until we've measured the opening and checked the header for a standard installation.
If a door is original to a 1980s build and still running on the hardware it shipped with, sometimes the honest answer is that patching one part isn't worth it when the rest of the system is the same age. We'll say that plainly instead of selling a spring job on a door that's going to need the opener next month anyway.
We don't do new construction framing or structural garage additions. We work on garage doors, springs, openers, tracks, and panels - if what you need is outside that, we'll tell you up front rather than take the job and figure it out later.
Questions
For straightforward spring, cable, or opener repairs on a standard single or double door, we can usually get close once we know the width and door age. Anything involving bent track, frame damage, or a door that's come off its hardware needs a look in person before we name a firm number.

Yes. A lot of the homes we service were built between 1970 and 2003, with most dating to the 1980s or 90s. Doors and openers from that era often use hardware sizes and spring types that differ from newer installs, so telling us the build decade helps us quote closer to accurate before we arrive.
We'll tell you if we think a repair isn't a good use of your money - for example, patching one part on a door old enough that the rest of the system is likely to fail soon too. We'd rather say that upfront than sell a repair that doesn't hold.
